Three Dog Night - Joy To The World - On Naturally Album (1971)

"Joy to the World" is a song written by Hoyt Axton, and made famous by the band Three Dog Night. The song is also popularly known by its opening words, "Jeremiah was a bullfrog". Three Dog Night originally released the song on their fourth studio album, Naturally in November 1970 and subsequently released an edited version of the song as a single in February 1971.

The song, which has been described by members of Three Dog Night as a "kid's song" and a "silly song", topped the main singles charts in North America, was certified gold by the RIAA, and has since been covered by multiple artists.

The song is featured prominently in the film The Big Chill. It is sung by a child character at the beginning and the Three Dog Night recording is played over the end credits.

It is also played at the end of every Denver Broncos victory at Sports Authority Field at Mile High and, before it, Mile High Stadium. Notable playings of this song after Broncos victories included then-Chicago Bears head coach Abe Gibron's singing along with the song in 1973, as immortalized by the Football Follies; and at the end of Super Bowl XXXII, played at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

When the song hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1971, Axton and his mother, Mae Axton, became the first mother and son to each have written a number one pop single in the rock era. Mae Axton co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel", which was the first number one hit for Elvis Presley.

Halsey - New Americana - On Badlands Album (2015)

"New Americana" is a song by American singer and songwriter Halsey taken from her debut studio album, Badlands (2015). It was written by Kalkutta, Larzz Principato, James Mtume and Halsey, while production was handled by Lido. Described as electropop and alternative pop, the song describes the normalization of aspects of counterculture, including recreational drug use. The song was released on July 10, 2015, as the second single from the album.

"New Americana" is an electropop and midtempo alternative pop song. According to the digital sheet music published by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc., the song is composed in the key of E♭ major with an approximate tempo of 87 BPM and a vocal range of B♭3-C5. The track also includes a sample of "Juicy" by The Notorious B.I.G. Halsey's voice is layered on the chorus, which was inspired by Pink Floyd's similarly-themed hit, "Another Brick in the Wall".

"New Americana" received mixed reviews from critics. The song received a warm reception from radio programmers, with D.J. Zane Lowe of Apple Beats Music saying of Halsey that "there's a new icon there", and that the song was "big". It has been labelled by critics, including Billboard, USA Today, and The New York Times, as a "generational anthem" for millennials.

Green Baron of Sputnikmusic, however, labelled the song Halsey's "worst foray into the world of songwriting", and found the lyrics to be "incredibly forced" and "too try-hard". Nathan Reese of Pitchfork was similarly unconvinced by the song's lyrics, describing the song as "plasticky" and superficial where it aimed to be inspirational.

Elton John - Bennie And The Jets - On Here And There Album (1974)

"Bennie and the Jets" (also titled as "Benny and the Jets") is a song composed by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The song is written in the key of G major and first appeared on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album in 1973. "Bennie and the Jets" has been one of John's most popular songs and was performed during John's appearance at Live Aid. The track is spelled Benny on the sleeve of the single and in the track listing of the album, but Bennie on the album vinyl disc label.

"Bennie and the Jets" was featured on side one of the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, and Elton John was set against releasing it as a single, believing it would fail. Radio station CKLW in Windsor, Ontario, began heavy airplay of the song and it became the #1 song in Detroit. This attention caused other American and Canadian Top 40 stations to add it to their playlists as well and as a result, the song peaked at #1 on the US singles chart in 1974. In the US, it was certified Gold on 8 April 1974 and Platinum on 13 September 1975 by the RIAA, and had sold 2.8 million copies by August 1976.

"Bennie and the Jets" was also John's first Top 40 hit on what at the time was called the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart, where it peaked at #15, the highest position out of the three of his singles which reached that chart. The acceptance of "Bennie" on R&B radio helped land John, a huge soul music fan, a guest appearance on the 17 May 1975 edition of Soul Train, where he played "Bennie and the Jets" and "Philadelphia Freedom". In Canada, it held the #1 spot on the RPM national singles chart for two weeks (13–20 April), becoming his first #1 single of 1974 and his fourth overall.
