Alphaville - Big in Japan (1984)

"Big in Japan" is the debut single of the German synth-pop band Alphaville. It was taken from their 1984 album Forever Young.

The single was a success in many countries, including Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. It was also the group's only UK Top 75 hit, reaching No. 8 on the UK Singles chart. The song also reached number one on the Hot Dance Club Play in December 1984.

"Relax" is the debut single by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, released in the United Kingdom by ZTT Records in 1983. The song was later included on the album Welcome to the Pleasuredome (1984).

Upon its release in the United States, "Relax" repeated its slow UK progress. In its initial release, it peaked at number 67 in May 1984. In January 1985, it re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 70, eventually reaching number 10 in March.

"One Night in Bangkok" is a song from the concept album and subsequent musical Chess by Tim Rice, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. British actor and singer Murray Head raps the verses, while the chorus is sung by Anders Glenmark, a Swedish singer, songwriter and producer.

The release topped the charts in many countries, including South Africa, West Germany, Switzerland and Australia. It peaked at No. 3 in both Canada and the United States in May 1985, and at No. 12 in Head's native United Kingdom.

All Through the Night by Cyndi Lauper (1983)

"All Through the Night" is a song written and originally recorded in 1983 by American singer-songwriter Jules Shear, though it is best known for the hit single version recorded by Cyndi Lauper later that same year. It is included on Lauper's debut album She's So Unusual.

"All Through The Night" was the only single released worldwide by Lauper that did not have a music video. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Lauper's fourth top five single in the U.S. The song was mostly positively received by critics.

My Best Friend's Girl by The Cars (1978)

"My Best Friend's Girl" is a song by American rock band the Cars from their 1978 self-titled debut album on Elektra Records, released on June 6 of that year. Written by Ric Ocasek and produced by Roy Thomas Baker, the song was released as the album's second single. It peaked at number 35 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and reached number three in the UK. "My Best Friend's Girl" was included on the soundtrack to the 1979 film Over the Edge, and the song appears on numerous compilation albums, such as the band's 1985 Greatest Hits, 1995's Just What I Needed: The Cars Anthology, and 2002's Complete Greatest Hits.

It's My Life by Talk Talk (1984)

"It's My Life" is a song by the English new wave band Talk Talk. Written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene, it was the title track on the band's second album and released as its first single in January 1984. It reached number 46 on the UK chart, but did better in several other countries, reaching number 33 in Germany, number 32 in New Zealand, number 25 in France and number 7 in Italy. It was also a success in North America, entering the Top 40 in both the United States (31) and Canada (30). (Notably, it peaked at number 1 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart.)

You Might Think by The Cars (1984)

"You Might Think" is a single by The Cars from their fifth studio album, Heartbeat City, which came out in 1984. The track was written by Ric Ocasek, and produced by Mutt Lange and the Cars. Ocasek sang lead vocals.

The track was the first single to be released from Heartbeat City. "You Might Think" peaked at No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 8 in Canada. It also peaked at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the U.S., the first song by the band to do so. In the UK, the song reached No. 88 on the pop charts.

The Warrior - Scandal (1984)

"The Warrior" is a song by American rock band Scandal from the album Warrior, written by Holly Knight and Nick Gilder. The song went to number one in Canada and number seven in the United States, as well as number one on the US Rock Top Tracks chart, and won a BMI Airplay Award in 1984. It was also a hit in Australia and New Zealand, peaking at numbers six and eleven respectively. The music video of the song depicts the apocalypse in a warehouse.

She Bop by Cyndi Lauper (1983)

"She Bop" is a song by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released as the third single from her debut studio album She's So Unusual. It reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in September 1984. Worldwide, the song is her most commercially successful single after "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time", and reached number 46 on the UK Singles Chart and number 6 on the ARIA Singles Chart. "She Bop" was her third consecutive Top 5 on the Hot 100. The song is also featured in the film Never Been Kissed.
