The genesis of the song dates back to 1973 and a demo tape recorded for a French record label by singer/guitarist Paul Roberts for the band Ashes of Moon. However, that band broke up and, at the suggestion of drummer Luigi Salvoni, Roberts re-formed it as Sniff 'n' the Tears with guitarists Laurence "Loz" Netto and Mick Dyche and bassist Nick South. They shopped the demo tape and signed with the small Chiswick label in 1977. Keith Miller played the Moog solo and also toured America with the band

  1. SNIFF 'N' THE TEARS

The six-man ensemble, coming out of nowhere, has produced an album that combines slice of life lyrics with a musical form that incorporates a distinct folk consciousness with rock, country twangs and synthesized shadings. The result is so irresistible that certain songs send chills through one’s body.

  2. If it is necessary to compare. Sniff ’N' The Tears (an outrageous name for such a competent group) is closest to Dire Straits in execution. Although the group lacks a trademarked stamp like Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler guitar riffs, the sound is in the same haunting vein where story-like lyrics are complemented with smart arrangements and just the right orchestration.

  3. Ah this song makes me dearly miss my high school ride. I had a B5 blue 1970 Dodge Charge R/T with a 440 and six pack. Used to drag main in our small town with all the windows down and this blasting from the 8 track.

  4. AM radio pop music at it's very end of relevance. This stuff will always sound better coming out of the 11 year old Olds Nintey Eight on a hot Houston summer night in 1979.

  5. They didn't have to even make another album after this because it achieved perfection!
